Sarah Lost 64 Pounds – This Is Her Story

by Dr. Russell on April 18, 2009

Meet My Friend Sarah…

You probably know someone who tried to lose weight, but no matter what they do, they can’t get the weight off, or can’t keep it off.

Of all the people I’ve personally helped lose weight, Sarah is one of the most memorable… not because she lost 64 pounds she couldn’t lose before, but because of all the people I’ve worked with, Sarah was by far the most desperate to lose weight.

Sarah was 71 pounds overweight the day she phoned me on the advice of her doctor, who was familiar with my work, and would send people struggling to lose weight my way from time to time.

I’ve never seen another human being so unhappy about being overweight.

Three years earlier Sarah thought she had the world by the tail. But on this day she was a mess; in terrible shape emotionally and physically, and practically insane over the fact that no matter how hard she tried she couldn’t seem to lose weight and keep it off.

People gain weight for all kinds of reasons. Sarah’s reason was emotional. The divorce was unexpected, messy and sent Sarah into an emotional free fall.

Feeling betrayed and cheated, Sarah was in pain. And to ease the pain she ate… and ate… and ate. On her way to hitting rock bottom emotionally, Sarah gained 71 pounds of unwanted, unattractive, and according to her doctor, extremely unhealthy fat.

No one gains 71 pounds without noticing and Sarah noticed, but at the time she just didn’t care. Food soothed the raw emotions that clawed her psyche. When she ate, at least for the moment, she forgot about the train wreck her personal life had become.

As time passed, and the hurt ran it’s course, Sarah decided it was time to get on with life. Her first step was to lose weight… a LOT of weight.

Sarah thought losing weight would be easy; after all, it’s just a matter of calories, right? How complicated can it be?

Common sense and a little will power is all it takes to lose weight and keep it off, right?

If only it were that easy!

Relying on common sense for weight loss usually fails because common sense, leads to common results and common results for weight loss are typically terrible.

It didn’t matter how much Sarah wanted to lose weight and it didn’t matter how hard she tried, unless you go about it the right way you simply can’t succeed, and the harder you try, the more frustrated you become.  And so it was with Sarah.

Sarah tried to lose weight the way most people go about it and you can guess what happened.

And when Sarah’s common sense, popular weight loss advice approach failed, she fell into the trap of moving from one thing to the next, pinning hope on whatever sounded good at the moment, praying for miracle and losing confidence by the day.

The Secret the movie

If you’ve ever even remotely experienced the kind of torture Sarah put herself through, my heart goes out to you.

Losing Weight And Keeping It Off Is Like Solving A Math Problem… There Really Is Only One Right Answer

Done right, losing weight is a wonderful, satisfying experience that leaves you stronger, healthier and more confident.

But try to lose weight the wrong way and only two possibilities exist; 1) either you don’t lose any weight, or, like Sarah; 2) you lose some but quickly regain it all back plus more, then get frustrated, and then try again.

At first, Sarah was confident her common sense approach would work, but after two long years of trying, Sarah’s body fat percentage, and her weight had zoomed up higher than ever, right along with her blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglycerides.

All Sarah accomplished following popular, common sense weight loss advice was to lose some weight and gain it back several times until she down-regulated her metabolism to the point where continued weight loss seemed impossible.

The Science Of Weight Loss Is Real
Everything Else Is Guesswork

Sarah didn’t know that losing weight and regaining it drives your body fat percentage up, and slows your metabolism down.   Every time you lose weight and gain it back, it becomes more difficult to lose weight again, and much easier to gain weight… even if you eat less.

If the lose-gain cycle keeps up long enough, eventually you reach a point where you can eat like a bird, not lose an ounce, and still have a tendency to gain.

This is where Sarah was the first time we spoke. Her well-meaning but misinformed approach had literally locked her in the prison of an overweight body and she hated every second of it.

I don’t know where you are in your weight loss odyssey, but if you’ve ever experienced the vicious lose-gain, lose-gain roller coaster you can imagine Sarah’s frustration.

Sarah wanted what every woman wants, to be healthy and look great, but she didn’t know how to accomplish it, and the harder she tried and the more she followed popular weight loss advice, the worse things became.

She had no idea how to reach a healthy, attractive body weight and regain the confident smile andpoise that is so natural when you see yourself in the mirror and KNOW you look good.

Over two years Sarah had spent thousands of dollars trying to lose weight and keep it off. Nothing worked. All she had to show for her efforts was more body fat than ever, a pile of credit card receipts, and frustration.

By the time Sarah and I met, she was beginning to believe she was doomed to be overweight forever.

To make matters worse, she was becoming increasingly desperate because she had hopes of meeting someone nice, and eventually remarrying. But Sarah honestly believed she would never be attractive to a man again, until she lost weight.

Sarah was a mess. She was at the proverbial last-stop just before giving up completely and plunging head first into depression.

Fortunately, Sarah’s doctor referred her to me.

If You Had Three Wishes…

Shortly after Sarah joined my coaching program, we played the magic genie game.

I asked Sarah what she would wish for if a magic genie appeared and offered to grant her three wishes. Her answer surprised me.

Sarah said she didn’t want three wishes, only one.

She said if she could just lose the weight she wanted to lose and get back to looking as good and feeling as well as she did before, she’d take care everything else herself and save the magic for something she couldn’t figure out on her own.

The genie never appeared, they never do, but as it turned out Sarah didn’t need magic or miracles to lose weight and regain her attractive figure and confident smile.

Sarah took part in my coaching sessions, followed the 5 Steps To Optimal Health Program and she stuck with it.

She listened, learned, followed the advice and eight short months later a very happy, sixty-four pounds lighter Sarah sold her house and walked confidently into a new life, with a new attitude, new wardrobe and a new husband who absolutely adores her.

Life was good again!

Sarah’s story has a happy ending, she lost weight, got her smile back, remarried and is as happy as can be.  But what about you?

You may not want a new husband, a new wife or a new life, but if you want to lose some weight and keep it off, you may benefit from a plan that can give you the same kind of results Sarah got.

Sarah followed a program developed over years of successful weight loss coaching called 5 Steps To Optimal Health.

The program works because it is based on the facts of nutrition and metabolism.   The program is so effective that excellent results are the rule, not the excelption, and practically everyone who takes the program seriously reaches their goal.

People report that losing weight on the program is easier than expected and keeping it off is perfectly natural.

  • Powerful nutrition secrets that end hunger and food cravings in a few days are clearly explained.
  • Tips and strategies that make losing weight easy and fun are discussed in detail.
  • You learn how to burn stored body fat by eating, not dieting.
  • You’ll understand everything about weight loss plateaus; what causes a plateau; why reaching a plateau can be a good sign; how to use every plateau as a springboard to restart your weight loss process; what you should never do when you reach a plateau.
  • You learn the mind-set that makes being fit and healthy easy and fun.
  • And a great deal more.

5 Steps To Optimal Health Reveals The Truth About Losing Weight And Keeping It Off

I thought about Sarah a lot while putting the 5 Steps Program in book form, because Sarah is a perfect example of, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.”

Sarah had tried and failed so many times, she was hostile at the very idea of getting her hopes up one more time, and skeptical because she believed nothing would work. The only reason she agreed to speak with me was because her medical doctor insisted.

Worse yet, she was angry because she expected to fail, and there I was, standing in the line of fire. What a way to start a coaching relationship!

As it turned out, 5 Steps To Optimal Health was perfect for Sarah for two very good reasons.

First, she no longer expected a miracle. Sarah finally accepted the fact that the weight-loss-equivalent of The Good Fairy is not going to fly by, tap your bottom, and make the bad fat go away.

Her acceptance of this simple truth freed her to focus on what actually does work, instead of wasting time on what doesn’t.

The second reason 5 Steps worked so well for Sarah is because 5 Steps To Optimal Health is 100% reality based.

Most weight loss programs are like a patchwork quilt of selective information aimed primarily at selling diet food, weight loss pills, exercise equipment, or some other miracle weight loss product.

5 Steps To Optimal Health is different.  The Program is simple and easy to follow.  You get the information you need to lose weight, and keep it off for life, and you get the diet, nutrition and lifestyle strategies you need to look and feel simply fabulous.

5 Steps is easy to follow, works for practically everyone who follows it, and is especially effective if you have struggled to lose weight or struggled to keep it off.

Common side effects of following the 5 Step Program, as reported by people who do, include; healthier blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglycerides, (as measured by thier doctor), plus higher energy and an enhanced sense of health and well being.

5 Steps To Optimal Health was the perfect solution for Sarah, and if you give it a try, I am confident you will get excellent results too  and will soon have your own success story to share.

So whether your goal is to fit into your skinny-jeans and get back into a size six, (or even a size four), or you just lose weight because you want to be healthy and energetic, with 5 Steps To Optimal Health, your opportunity to succeed has never been more real.
